(Washington, DC) -- The snow is still piled high in mid-Atlantic states after a fierce blizzard, and now people in those areas are anticipating another one. Snow is currently falling along the Mississippi River Valley from Arkansas all the way north to Minnesota. That system is heading east and should dump more snow on Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the DC area by tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, Southern California should get more rain tomorrow, and hopefully that won't result in more mudslides. About 500 homes in the La Canada Flintridge community have been evacuated due to mudslides.
The nation's capital remains paralyzed after the weekend's massive snowstorm, and another blizzard is on the way. The federal government is closed after the worst storm to hit the DC region in decades. The House and Senate are out today, and lawmakers may have trouble returning to town as area airports struggle to get back up to full speed. Meantime, schools throughout the DC, Virginia and Maryland areas are closed, power remains out for tens of thousands, and the Metro subway transit system is operating on underground lines only. Above-ground stations remain closed. Another heavy snowstorm is expected to arrive in the Mid-Atlantic region tomorrow and could dump another foot of snow between Washington, DC, and New York.
Mid-Atlantic residents are bracing for the second blow of a one-two punch of harsh winter weather. A fierce storm over the weekend dropped up to 38 inches of snow from West Virginia to southern New Jersey. Another blizzard is expected to move into the region tomorrow. Forecasters expect it to bring another foot of snow to a huge area from Washington, DC to New York. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon.
